When to actuallly take it varies on the need and the intention of the one taking them.
Ideally, it’s best taken upon waking up. When we get up in the morning (or evening or mid day depending on our work shift sometimes), our brains are somewhat sluggish or just re-booting for the lack of a better term. This stage is called neural inertia.
Neural inertia is the tendency of our Central Nervous System to resist behavioral state transitions between conscious and unconscious states.
When we take it upon waking, it counters neural inertia and modulates attentional network.
After taking it, in about 40 to 60 minutes modafinil will start kicking in. So take it at a time that suits your activities for a given day.
Modafinil also has a half life of about 12 to 15 hours. It lasts that long, so to avoid sleep disruption, take it as early as you can when you wake up. Timing is key to make sure that you maximize the effects and be able to rest enough and allow your body to recover when it wears off.
